I’m a social scientist interested in how people make sense of the political. My research centres on political trust. Trust enables cooperation for the commons, but it is not simple: More trust is not always better and some (dis-)trust is more corrosive for democracy than others. Why are some citizens choosing not to trust, and some even turning cynical?
I work primarily with quantitative methods, mostly surveys, but I believe in listening and inspiring across the methodological, disciplinary, and epistemological hedges. Rigorous analysis and reflective reasoning should coexist in all research.
I studied political science and political economy in Mannheim and at Stockholm University. I worked at Eurofound in Dublin before starting the PhD at Sciences Po in Paris. I am currently working at the Institute of Political at the University of Bern.
